You Already Have Student Leaders
Let’s help them use their influence well – in your church and in their schools.
Applications open October 1

Why Grade 10 is Strategic
You don’t need to create leaders from scratch. They’re already in your youth ministry.
Grade 10 is a pivotal year:
- Identity is forming
- Influence is expanding
- Peer influence is emerging
SLC exists to intentionally disciple students during this window – before patterns solidify and confidence fades.
This isn’t about adding another program. It’s about forming courageous student leaders, who are already a part of your church.

What SLC is (and isn’t)
School Impact
SLC equips students to run Alpha in their high schools.
That means:
- Creating safe space for questions
- Inviting peers into conversation
- Sharing the good news of Jesus in relational ways
This strengthens your church’s mission beyond Sunday gatherings.
Students grow – and your youth ministry grows with them.

Who Should You Consider?
Look for students who:
- Have relational influence (even quietly)
- Show spiritual hunger
- Are willing to grow
- May not yet see themselves as leaders
We encourage churches to consider nominating 2-4 students.
Some churches send one trio. Others send multiple.

What’s Required from Your Church?
Minimal administration. Intentional partnership.
Your role includes:
- Identifying students
- Confirming a mentor
- Encouraging consistency
- Supporting school-based Alpha
Alpha Canada provides national coordination, training, and ongoing support.
You are not doing this alone.
Application Details

Frequently Asked Questions
What if we can’t find a second student yet?
We encourage identifying two students from the same school, but we understand contexts vary.
If you’re still working through potential pairings, you can begin the process and confirm details shortly after.
We’re happy to discuss specific situations with you.
How much time does SLC require?
Students will participate by:
-
Connecting with their trio (their friend and their mentor)
-
Meeting with their pod (their trio plus a few more)
-
Joining an online session each month with everyone
-
Attending one in-person gathering over a weekend
-
Planning and running Alpha in their school
The structure is intentional but sustainable.
What if our church or youth group is small?
Church size is not a limiting factor.
We’ve seen strong engagement from small and rural congregations.
The trio model supports sustainability in any context.
What does running Alpha in school actually look like?
Students are trained and supported to run Alpha in their schools through relational invitation.
Alpha provides a structured, conversation-based framework that aligns with the local church’s mission.
Do students need to feel “ready” before applying?
We are not looking for polished leaders.
We are looking for students who are willing to grow.
Formation happens throughout the year.
Can students apply if all trio details aren’t finalized?
Yes.
Initial applications can be submitted while confirming mentor and pairing details.
What happens after students complete SLC?
Students complete SLC equipped to contribute meaningfully to both youth ministry and school-based mission.
We’ll send preparation details and application guidance.
