What is the Student Leadership Collective?
The Student Leadership Collective (SLC) is an apprenticeship journey rooted in and serving the local Church in Canada. The SLC creates space for grade 10 students to grow in their relationship with Jesus, discover their God-given purpose, and courageously share the good news of Jesus – starting in their schools, churches, and communities.
You’ll journey in a trio (you, another student, and a mentor from your church), connect regionally in pods, gather online once a month with the whole SLC, and come together in person at the national gathering.
You’re not preparing for someday; you’re empowered to lead today.
From the Yukon to Newfoundland, students grew in courage to share the good news of Jesus where they are.

Program Components
Trios
Every participant is a part of a trio. Two grade 10 students (ideally from the same school and church), and a mentor from their local context. This trio is your core support team, who you’ll journey through the SLC with.
“Being able to grow with my mentor and friend changed everything.”
Pods
Your trio connects monthly with 2-3 other trios from your region. Pods are led by a mentor and create space to reflect on sessions, share experiences, and encourage each other. The meeting time for pods is directly before or after the online session.
“SLC gave me a [pod] group I can rely on for anything.”
Online Sessions
On the first Thursday of each month, you’ll join students from across Canada to learn from leaders, ask questions, and be inspired. Each session includes simple take-home practices to help put what you’ve heard into action with your trio, pod, school, and church.
Each session begins at 4:30 PT / 7:30 ET and runs for 60 minutes. Pods meet before or after the online session depending on your time zone and availability.
“The teaching gave me courage to bring faith into my daily conversations.”
In-Person Gathering
From April 9-11, 2027, the whole SLC will gather together in Ontario at Muskoka Woods for a powerful weekend of worship, connection, and teaching. This is a highlight for many students and an incredible chance to encounter the Holy Spirit and experience a united vision with peers from coast to coast.
“It was one of the most impactful weekends of my life.”
Why Grade 10?
Grade 10 is a catalytic season. You’re forming identity, convictions and courage to make a difference where you are. The SLC exists to help you lead right now, where you are, not someday.
Who is the SLC For?
The SLC serves an ecosystem of people within the local church:
Students: This is your chance to grow in faith, discover purpose, and share Jesus at your school with courage.
Mentors: Walk alongside two Grade 10 students as a trusted guide and encourager.
Parents: The SLC comes alongside what you’re already doing to disciple your child.
Church Leaders: The SLC is a tool in your hands to raise and release your Grade 10 leaders with spiritual depth, practical skills, and hearts to share Jesus.
What is the Commitment?
Being part of the SLC is a six-month journey with a steady rhythm of connection and growth. On average, students and mentors invest about 3-4 hours a month, plus the in-person gathering in April.

Frequently Asked Questions
Students
How do I know if I’m the right fit for the SLC?
The SLC is for any Grade 10 student who is willing to learn, grow, and take a step of courage. We believe God can use you to make an impact in your friends’ lives, your school, your community, and—together with your church—in Canada.
How much does it cost?
The cost is $275 for each student. Thanks to generous donors, most of the cost is already covered. If finances are a challenge, we have a sponsorship program that is open alongside applications—we’re committed that money will never be a barrier to joining. There is no cost for mentors.
Is the In-Person Gathering included in the fee?
Yes. All expenses for the In-Person Gathering, including travel, lodging, and meals, are covered in the student fee.
What’s the time commitment?
The SLC runs January–June. Each month includes:
-
Trio conversations (within your regular rhythms—like before youth, after school, or over coffee).
-
Pod gatherings (before/after the online session depending on your time zone and availability).
-
Online sessions (national gathering on the first Thursday of the month, 4:30 pm PT // 7:30 pm ET).
-
In-person Gathering (April 9-11, 2027 at Muskoka Woods, Ontario).
Overall, expect around 3–4 hours a month, plus the In-Person Gathering.
Do I need to apply with a friend?
Yes. Just like Jesus sent his disciples in pairs, we want you to experience the SLC alongside someone from your community. If you’re unsure who, ask your youth leader or mentor to help you prayerfully consider who else to invite.
When do I have to apply by?
Applications open October 1, 2026 and close October 19, 2026. Make sure you and your friend have submitted your applications, and your mentor has filled out their form.
Mentors
How will this help my church, and our youth ministry?
You’ll walk alongside your students in an intentional way, investing in their faith and leadership while also being encouraged by other mentors across Canada. The commitment is light (around 3 hours per month), but the impact on your students—and your mentoring relationship—is significant.
What would I be getting out of the SLC, as a mentor?
You’ll embark on a leadership journey uniquely designed for you over the coming months. Along the way, you’ll have intentional moments to connect with your students and invest in those relationships. Additionally, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to engage with other leaders from across the country.
Why would the SLC be helpful for my students?
Through trios, pods, online sessions, and the national gathering, students grow as resilient disciples. They’ll be challenged, encouraged, and activated to live out their faith with courage in their everyday environments.
Do I need to be present with my students?
Yes—your presence matters. As a mentor, your role is to walk with your students as they live out what they’re learning. Whether you’re a youth worker, church leader, or volunteer, your encouragement and guidance make a lasting impact.
What’s the time commitment?
From January–June, expect around 3–4 hours per month. This includes your trio rhythm, monthly pod gatherings, and national online sessions, plus the in-person gathering in March.
Is there a cost for mentors?
No. There’s no cost for mentors. The student cost is $275, but if finances are a challenge, we’ll work with you to make sure it’s never a barrier.
As a mentor, do I need to apply?
Yes. Students complete their application, and mentors fill out a short form to confirm their role. The deadline is October 19, 2025.
