What is the Student Leadership Collective?
The SLC is a discipleship journey, rooted in the local church, empowering grade 10 leaders to grow in relationship with Jesus, uncover their God-given purpose, and courageously share the hope they have found in Him.
We believe in YOU and in your generation. We believe God will use you to make an incredible impact in your friends’ lives, your school, your community, and together, in this country.
Key Elements
Trios
Your trio, consisting of you, the friend you apply with, and your mentor—will embark on a journey through the SLC handbook, engage with your cluster, and attend the National Gathering together. As a trio, you’ll be responsible for meeting at least once a month to discuss and process the handbook and all things SLC!
Clusters
Your trio will expand by joining 2-3 other trios to create a cluster, fostering connections with new individuals in your general region. Clusters will hold monthly, hour-long meetings dedicated to reflection questions and anything SLC.
Online sessions
On the second Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM EST, the SLC hosts an online session with a speaker. These sessions are packed with excellent content, offering a key opportunity to engage, learn, and ask questions on your SLC journey.
National Gathering
The National Gathering will be taking place at Muskoka Woods March 20th to 22nd. You and your trio will travel to Muskoka Woods in Ontario. We’ll gather in person for learning, worship, and community. All expenses for this gathering are included in your SLC fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Students
How do I know if I’m the right fit for the SLC?
The SLC is for any grade 10 student who is willing to learn, grow, and try new things. We believe God will use anyone willing to make an incredible impact in their friends lives, their school, community, and alongside your church, and others, in Canada.
How much does it cost?
The cost of this experience is $275 for each student, there is no cost for the youth leader. Thanks to generous donors who believe in you, we’re able to cover almost all of the costs. If covering the remaining cost is still a challenge, let us know. We’re committed to working with you to make it happen, so finances don’t prevent you from signing up!
What’s the time commitment?
The SLC runs from January to June, with each month having an online session, a cluster meeting, and discussion within the trios, joined by the in-person national gathering in March.
Do I need to apply with a friend?
Yes! We believe in the power of growing alongside someone from your community. Just like Jesus sent out His disciples in pairs, we want you and a friend to experience God moving in your high school together. If you’re unsure who to apply with, consider asking a mentor or leader to join you, then prayerfully consider who else to invite.
When do I have to apply by?
Applications will open September 19th, and will close October 19th! Make sure that you and your friend have submitted their application, and your leader has filled out their form.
Leaders
How will this help my church, and our youth ministry?
The SLC is rooted in the local church. You’ll grow as a mentor by discipling students already in your community. These students will be equipped to share their faith, directly applying what they learn within your youth ministry and wider church.
What would I be getting out of the SLC, as a leader?
You’ll embark on a leadership journey uniquely designed for you over the coming months. Along the way, you’ll have intentional moments to connect with your students and invest in those relationships. Additionally, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to engage with other leaders from across the country.
Why would the SLC be helpful for my students?
Elements in the SLC like online sessions, a national community, an in person retreat, etc. contribute to the growth of resilient disciples. If your students are willing to learn, be challenged, and lean into what God is doing across Canada, the SLC could be a great opportunity to see your students thrive.
Do I need to be present with my students?
Youth leaders and mentors have the best influence over their students and the most crucial ability to stay connected with them as they go and live out things we are discussing as a group. Your commitment is just as valuable as there’s.
What’s the time commitment?
The SLC runs from January to June, with each month having an online session, a cluster meeting, and discussion within the trios, joined by the in-person national gathering in March.
Is there a cost for leaders?
There is no cost for leaders, and the cost for students is $275. If covering the cost for students is a challenge, let us know as we are committed to making it work!
As a leader, do I need to apply?
There is a student application, and a leader form. Make sure you have your form filled out by October 19th!
